The Clerget parcel of Caillerets is one of the treasures of the domaine. They own 0.47 hectares of old vines (nearly 90 years old); 0.38 hectares are currently in production. Because of the age the yield is meager (around 15 hl/ha) with two or three bunches of tiny grapes per vine; the dominance of limestone in the soil yields a wine of stunning freshness and concentration with an intense mulberry and plum fruit and hints of earth smoke and leather. The texture is dense but has a silky feel and great finesse. The wine is ageing now in cask (50% new). (Drink between 2027-2045)

From the domaine?s oldest vines yielding just 12 hl/ha. He would be allowed to make 12 barrels and has made 3.5 with one new all destemmed. Mid purple in colour with an intriguing floral elegance clearly complex not the most intense. The interweaving of the fruit and its mineral acidity is compelling as indeed is the length of flavour. A high class Caillerets made with sensitivity. Dancing towards the ethereal. Chapeau.
Vinous: 93-95 Points
The 2022 Volnay Les Caillerets 1er Cru is fully de-stemmed and matured in 25% new oak comprising four barrels this vintage. The bouquet is overtly floral: mainly black fruit incense/potpourri and hints of vanilla filtering through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with a solid structured entry segueing into a very elegant and tensile mid-palate. There is plenty of energy here poised and long; this could well turn out to be one of Clerget's best contributions to the vintage. (Drink between 2027-2048)
Burghound: 92-95 Points
Here too subtle notes of wood are present on the exuberantly spicy and ripe yet cool aromas of plum dark raspberry and cassis. Once again there is again excellent volume to the caressing and gorgeously textured but very punchy medium weight flavors that conclude in a firm dusty mildly warm and hugely persistent finish. This is at once exceptionally classy but altogether serious. If you can find it buy it. (Drink starting 2034)
