The 2022 Hartwell XX Cabernet Sauvignon is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. Deep garnet-purple in color it opens with a classic nose of blackcurrant cordial red currant jelly and pencil shavings followed by slowly emerging nuances of iris bulb black olives and Indian spices. The full-bodied palate delivers a rock-solid structure of firm grainy tannins and just enough freshness finishing long and spicy. The 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon Hartwell XX is packed with explosive dark fruit chocolate licorice and new leather. Inky and deep the Hartwell is terrific. Ripe black cherry plum incense licorice and chocolate are all dialed up. The 2022 is extroverted and quite potent. - By Antonio Galloni on December 2024 These 2022 Cabernet Sauvignons from Realm provide a good opportunity to examine how various sites performed in what was a very challenging vintage. I thought the Farella Cabernet Sauvignon fared best in 2022 in line with many wines from Coombsville that are especially strong. Ultimately though the 2022s represent a point in a long-term trajectory that is among the most impressive in Napa Valley. Realm started as a virtual brand with no physical assets. Today under the leadership of Scott Becker and Benoit Touquette Realm has acquired numerous estate vineyards and winemaking facilities assets that eliminate questions about future viability that impact so many other wineries.
