The 2023 Barbera d'Alba is another fine entry-level offering from Burlotto. In 2023 Fabio Alessandria did not feel the Aves his top Barbera was materially different from this the straight bottling so he blended all the fruit together. Consequently the Barbera has a bit more fruit density and a touch of oak influence (from new casks) that it does not usually have. Succulent red cherry plum spice cedar and rose petal build nicely in the glass. I can?t say enough good things about these new releases from Burlotto and proprietor Fabio Alessandria....But what increasingly impresses me here is the quality and consistency of the entry-level wines. Those offerings are an absolute guarantee of character personality and quality. That?s something I wish I could say more often but the reality is that the number of estates where every wine is this compelling is small.
