Produced from a parcel planted in 1950 the 2020 Rully en Guesnes Wadana (formerly his cuvée Vieilles Vignes) was processed manually; Dureuil's team removed the clusters' rachis by hand retaining the berries attached to their pedicels à la Lalou Bize-Leroy. Offering up aromas of wild berries sweet exotic spices and classy new oak it's medium to full-bodied ample and velvety with a deep and concentrated core powdery tannins and a long sapid finish.

Very generous wood fights somewhat with the distinctly earthy aromas of ripe dark currant sauvage and anise. The rich mouthcoating and relatively fine middleweight flavors display very fine length on the balanced finale. For my taste this is pretty woody but it is built to age for at least 10 to 12 years and as such I suspect that the oak will eventually integrate. (Drink starting 2030)

This is the second vintage of a special version of En Guesnes made with whole berries retaining their short pedicel stems and aged in new wood. A dense colour and rather a stunning bouquet though harder to discern the detail. Much more tannin perhaps from the wood and a bit more of the blueberry character. Drink from 2024-2027.
