This iconic wine of the de Montille portfolio has an exquisitely complex aroma of silky mulberry fruit with suggestions of earth smoke and a savoury gamey edge. The feel is tannic and dense with impressive length and the energy to balance the rich flavours and textures. The grapes come from the family's two parcels that total more than 1.5 hectares. In 2022 all the grapes were fermented as whole clusters with a firm extraction and ageing in a cask (30% new). (Drink between 2025 - 2050)

Discreet wood can be found on the equally floral-suffused aromas of ripe yet cool red berries kirsch and rose petal. The wonderfully sleek detailed and overtly mineral-driven medium weight flavors are akin to rolling a small pebble around in the mouth on the bitter pit fruit-inflected finish that goes on and on. Made from 80 year old vines vinified with all the stems. A richer purple. The bouquet is stunning offering intensity with elegance. The core of ripe fruit plus the additional perfume from whole bunches. A very fine graceful texture with tensile strength. By Jasper Morris

The 2022 Volnay Les Taillepieds 1er Cru has the ripest bouquet of the Volnay cuvées - red cherries and wild strawberries the 100% whole bunches very well enmeshed.
