John Gilman: 93+ Points
The 1995 Latour à Pomerol was one of the wines where we had an off bottle at our vertical but happily the wine is still in the marketplace and I was able to obtain a replacement. This is a very strong vintage in the commune and the wine offers up a superb bouquet of black cherries plums Cuban cigars gravelly soil tones a nice touch of spice hints of the black truffles to come a dollop of Pomerol herb tones and cedary wood. On the palate the wine is pure full-bodied and supremely elegant with a fine core excellent soil signature well-integrated moderate tannins and outstanding length and grip on the complex and focused finish. This is not too far away from its plateau of maturity and is a superb vintage at this estate. Along with the 1998 this is probably the finest Latour à Pomerol of the decade. (Drink between 2020-2060)
